Dallas the third largest city in Texas is the main cultural and economic center of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro area of 6 million people. The discovery of oil brought Dallas to prominence and the invention of the integrated circuit by Texas Instruments punctuated the area development in the high-tech manufacturing. “Telecom Corridor” is home to more than fifty seven hundred companies. The Dallas Market Center is the largest wholesale trade complex in the world. The Dallas Metroplex has more shopping centers per capita than any other U.S. city. The Metroplex has one of the greatest concentrations of billionaires in the world.
Dallas is a major center for education for the South Central United States. The city also has many hospitals and medical research facilities. Transportation is mostly automobile with The Dallas Area Rapid Transfer supplying public transportation. Interstate Highways 20,30, 35E and 45 run through the city. Two airports service the area. The climate is subtropical with occasional tornadoes.
The arts district is home to several art venues. Dallas is home to the largest zoo in Texas. The Texas State Fair is held annually in Dallas at Fair Park and brings in three hundred fifty million visitors to the city. Dallas Texas is also known as where President John F Kennedy was assassinated.
